An Associated Press article date July 9, 2008, confirmed my suspicions about ones ability to work oneself to death.
According to the Japanese Labor Bureau, a forty-five year old man died from ischemic heart disease after averaging more than 80 hours of overtime per month in the two months prior to his death.
Apparently this is a phenomenon called "karoshi" that has been recognized by the Japanese Health Ministry and has been steadily on the rise since first recognized in 1987.
